Posted in Inspirations with tags beauty shop signs, beauty shops, cool beauty shop signs, los angeles culture on January 30, 2010 by tminxI see this sign all the time. It’s off Sunset Blvd. in Echo Park and can never stop staring at it.
It’s called Lovely Cuts and should be called “Scary Cuts”..Doesn’t the family have kind of a “Frankenstein” thing going?

p.s the actual shop looks pretty nice….

Butcher, Interesting People, los angeles graffiti artists, street art, Street Artists, Street Culture, Triple A graffiti artist on January 29, 2010 by tminxWhile out looking for inspiration I came across two guys working on a mural in Silverlake….At the famed “Circus of Books” on Sunset and Sandborn. It’s a mini-landmark of sorts ( and sortedness…)”Triple A” and “Butcher” were midway into the piece when I came across them.I shot some photos but they don’t do the artwork justice. I hope to go back when the piece is finished to get the full story and a photo of Triple A. He was on the phone.

This is Butcher standing in front of the geometric blue piece he was working on. He’d been there for about an hour…

It’s so beautiful.
This next pictures are all of his hats in the early 60’s. At this time he had left Chicago and was working in Manhattan for Madame Dache, then Bergdorf’s…The last is a photo of Halston himself. I told you he was handsome….More to come…

I did get these from Jezebel. They are so funny I had to repost. I’m sure he has a logical explanation for this, but I don’t know if it matters. It’s so “Outrageous meets Bruno” I wish I was there to see it in person.
Halston pt. 1
Posted in Inspirations with tags designer, great america designer, halston, new york designer on January 22, 2010 by tminxThere’s nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said about Roy Halston Frowick, the hat millener turned mega Designer through the 70’s and early 80’s. His easy, sophisticated drapey designs really helped defined the American Style of fashion. Although he is passed his designs never fail to find new legions of fans. It’s simply a style that can’t be improved upon. He was also very handsome and one of the first designers to become a celebrity himself…..To be cont.

Tminx Loves Cindy Sherman!!!!!
Posted in Favorite Minx, Inspirations with tags american artists, cindy sherman, great photographers, great women artists, great women photographers on January 21, 2010 by tminxAs soon as I can afford one, I’m buying an original Cindy Sherman print/photo. I’m not buying it because of the resale value or investment etc, etc. Just for pure love and appreciation. She’s a wonderful artist who has made name for herself as one of the photo greats. Her work is conceptual. She takes photos of herself as various characters (in film, life, professions, etc) and immerses herself so well that the viewer never really knows “who the real Cindy is” Love it!!! LOL!!
Also, she started out doing everything herself …photorapher, art director, wardrobe, make-up, model, muse..( of course she may have assistants now) She’s been doing it since the 1970’s. LOVE HER even more!!!
Some examples of her work below……
